Some Fundamental Changes to Hourly Jobs
We're introducing a few important updates specifically for Hourly job types to improve how we track billable effort across every delivery.
What's Changing?
- Milestones are now mandatory for logging hours
For Hourly jobs, time can now be logged only against a Milestone.
Since each milestone represents a delivery, this ensures that all logged effort is associated with a specific deliverable, giving us better visibility into where billable work is being performed.
- New: Billable Hours on Milestones
We've introduced a new Billable Hours field at the Milestone level.
This helps us:
- Track the billable effort associated with each delivery
- Understand billable consumption milestone by milestone
- Capture more accurate operational and financial data
- Build stronger billing and reporting insights for hourly engagements
Refined Meaning of Milestone Statuses
We've also aligned the existing milestone statuses to better represent the billing lifecycle of an Hourly delivery:
- In Progress → Active work is being performed on the delivery.
- Completed → The delivery is finished, billable hours have been added, and it's ready to be billed.
- Closed → The delivery has been billed and is fully completed from a financial perspective.
This gives every milestone a clear journey—from execution to billing.
Why This Change?
For Hourly engagements, it's not enough to know how many hours were logged. We also need visibility into:
- Which delivery those hours belong to
- How much effort is billable for each delivery
- Which deliveries are ready for billing
- Which deliveries have already been billed
These changes create a stronger foundation for delivery tracking, billing, and future financial insights in Everest.
More Improvements Are Coming
This is the first of several enhancements we're bringing to Hourly jobs. More improvements in this area are already underway to make hourly engagements even more structured, transparent, and data-driven.
Stay tuned there's more on the way!
